MR Photo "#7"; Ayers Portal.

Official caption: "It's the summer of 1961, and a freight headed by the first two Gp30s that EMD built highballs eastbound through Ayres in a '60s-'70s era operating session. Schuyler Larrabee detailed and painted the units"

This photo is the veiw heading Westbound on the layout. Through this portal is Charleston, WV, home to the Charleston passenger station, Charleston freight yard, and the Steel Mill. The westbound train is actually on a controlled siding, leading into the mill/freight yard; as this is still 'single track' area. The Eastbound units are on the main line and will soon pass through another tunnel on their way to Slayton, the next town on the line.

The building on the left is a local business services by a rail spur, just visible between the building and the second (green) locomotive.
