Buying and Selling

To help support the club, the NSMRC buys and sells model railroad equipment.

Selling our inventory

We sell items through various means as shown below. All proceeds benefit the club and layout.
Shows
We sell most items at various train shows in the greater Boston area. The biggest of these being our own show, and the annual Amherst show in West Springfield, MA. See our Calendar to find other local shows we will be attending.
Clearance Sale / Flea Market
Twice a year we have a huge clearance sale - Springtime on the South Shore, and Autumn right here in Wakefield. Over 30 tables of our huge inventory from estate sales and collections. Plenty of rarities and unique items, and great deals to be head. Check out our Flea Market page for the date of our next big sale!

Buying collections

We also buy model railroad collections and estate items. If you have to give up your layout or have inherited a collection of model railroad items, we may be interested in purchasing the collection. Please contact us to start a conversation.

Please note - Because we buy collections to sell and support the layout, we have had to limit what we purchase to items that we can sell. Because of this
  • We are only buying HO scale equipment. Please, no N, Lionel or G gauge equipment
  • No books, magazines, tapes or DVDs please. They just don't sell.
  • Chances are we won't be able to make an offer on the old train set you found in your attic. The older stuff doesn't sell, and chances are it is not a rarity

Donations to the club

We also accept donated items. If you have old childhood items or have inherited items you have no use for, we are open to accepting these as donations (including the items above that we cannot buy). Even if not sellable, we will do our best to get any donation to a good home. Please contact us if you would like to make a donation. If it's a small enough collection (a box or two) you can just bring it down to the club on a Thursday night and we will gladly accept the donation.
